Sometimes you just need to take a break and sit down with a delicious treat to brighten your day. Annelore’s German Bakery is the perfect place for that. I walked into what looked like a small, plain building with a group of 12 teenagers and boy was I surprised! The small, plain building turned out to be a spacious and homey cafe with a sparkling, clean floor and a health department rating of a perfect 100. The bakery was decked out in 4th of July decor and flowers to lighten the mood. Not to mention the giant windows that shone bright sunshine inside the bakery, making it practically impossible not to enjoy yourself.
When I walked up to the register, I was greeted by one of the baker assistants who helped me with my order of a Baiser Rose and a traditional German cake called Feuerwehrkuchen Torte also known as the Fire Brigade Cake. The baker answered all my questions and explained how to pronounce all the German names correctly. The service was wonderful and with 13 people, my order came within seconds.
As I took my seat at a nice, roomy table, and took a bite of the cake. The tart cherry jam filling complimented the creamy top beautifully. It tasted like a blend of cherry pie and a tiramisu. It was unlike anything I have ever tasted. The slice was cooled and prepared very carefully with chocolate shavings on top which added to its elegance. The cake was very filling and heavy so I suggest getting it to share.
The Baiser Rose on the other hand, was very light and crumbly. The center was chewy and the chocolate cover melted together with the sugary flavor of the meringue. The dessert was very simple but delicious. Overall, Annelore’s German Bakery is an authentic, German pastry shop that is worth stopping by for sure!
This restaurant is a small, cozy place to grab a bite for lunch or dinner. Although there is limited seating, the restaurant provides outdoor seating as well as indoor. The air conditioning indoors wasn’t the greatest, which is something to watch out for during the summer. The place is small but takes decorating very seriously as it displays many paintings and colorful decor. There is an extensive menu that includes fries and chicken tenders for little ones.
There was a drink fridge where you could choose from a selection of unique drinks and a few desserts. I ordered three shrimp tacos and a side of chips and queso. My order came relatively fast, considering I had 13 other people in my group. The service was normal and as expected.
The tortilla chips were okay and the queso was meh but the main event was the tacos. The soft corn shell was bland and tiring while the stuffing, consisting of shrimp, pico de gallo and cilantro was quite good. I squeezed some lime on my tacos which added a sour kick. Overall, this restaurant wasn’t impressive but a nice place to go for a quick meal.
Di Fara Pizza Tavern is a pizza/bar place that features the use of New York water to create an authentic, Brooklyn-style, New York pizza. This tavern was squeaky clean, with a sanitation rating of a perfect 100. One thing to note about this place is that if you have a big party; around ten-ish, you have to make a reservation beforehand. This tavern has great air conditioning and provides many televisions to watch sports or game shows.
I ordered garlic knots, a white pie, a cheese pie and a chaos pie. These dishes came relatively fast with the garlic knots coming first. The garlic knots were a cheesy, buttery gift from god. Add the marinara and you’ve got something I’m serving at every family gathering.
he pizzas we ordered came next, straight out of the oven! Out of all the pizza pies, the white pie was my favorite. The mix of the crispy crust, the ricotta and parmesan, topped with basil was absolutely divine. This cheesy, oily goodness makes my top three favorite pizzas ever! The rest of the pizza pies were standard and a bit oily but the charred crust made up for everything. The pizza crust wasn’t too fluffy, it was perfectly crispy and soft. In total, I would really recommend this pizza tavern for big or small parties who want to try some quality pizza.
Have you ever wondered; “What’s the difference between gelato and ice cream?” Well I have! Geluna Gelato can provide the answer to all your questions about this topic. This small gelato shop is locally owned and operated. They include many classic flavors as well as unique flavors like corn and blueberry swirl, malted milk and lemon sorbet. Since gelato has a lower fat content than ice cream, the flavor really shines through and the gelato tastes much smoother.
The interior of this shop is very clean and vintage. It’s bright and homey, making your gelato tasting experience terrific. There is an adequate amount of seating, although it may be limited at busy times. There are three sizes to choose from, ranging from one flavor to three.
I picked three flavors; Coffee, Lemon Sorbet and Corn and Blueberry Swirl. All the flavors tasted intense, I could really taste all the flavors and the smooth texture. The coffee flavor tasted like a freshly brewed latte, I couldn’t believe my taste buds! The lemon sorbet tasted just like a fresh, frozen lemonade. It was refreshing and just the right amount of sour. The star of the show was definitely the corn and blueberry swirl. The corn flavor was really soft and not overpowering the blueberry swirl. This was a very exotic flavor and I am very glad to have tried it. I really recommend coming to Geluna Gelato to try new flavors and find the difference between gelato and ice cream.
